IBTM World 2026 Opens Media Registration Ahead of Barcelona Return in November
Press credentials are now available for IBTM World 2026, the business events industry’s largest annual gathering, which returns to Fira Barcelona from 17 to 19 November 2026. Organisers expect more than 2,500 exhibitors — spanning destinations, hotels, venues, event-technology suppliers and startups — to meet upward of 12,000 international event professionals over the three-day show, in what has become one of the sector’s key dealmaking and networking fixtures. Media wishing to attend can register here for a complimentary pass.
A theme built around disruption
This year’s edition is framed around “The Age of Disruption” — an acknowledgment of the forces reshaping how the events industry operates. Organisers point to the rapid uptake of AI tools, tighter budgets, rising attendee expectations, and mounting pressure on planners to prove measurable return on investment as the pressures defining the current moment for the sector. It’s a theme that reflects broader anxieties many industries are grappling with, rather than a niche concern confined to event planning alone.
Marquee speakers headline the programme
The show opens with a keynote from historian and Sunday Times bestselling author Dr Eliza Filby, whose session, “Now and Next: Understanding People in a Changing World,” will look at how large-scale disruption is reshaping identity, human connection and everyday experience.
Day two’s Exceptional Experiences track will be opened by bestselling author Will Storr, who will draw on neuroscience research to explain why certain experiences remain memorable long after they end, in a session titled “The Storytelling Brain.”
What else is on the show floor?
Beyond the keynote stages, IBTM World 2026 is expanding several of its programme strands:
- IBTM Ignite, run in partnership with allpoints, returns across all three days to connect more than 30 startups with over 15 investors, alongside potential customers and partners. Founders taking part will get pitch coaching, investor-readiness support, a scheduled meetings diary with guaranteed appointment slots, and a live pitch on the Future Stage.
- The Skills Exchange is a new addition — a more hands-on, community-driven learning format built around smaller sessions such as Lunch & Learn, Brain & Brew and Sips & Skills, blending practical training with informal networking.
- The Hotel Pavilion returns bigger than previous editions, bringing together an expanded mix of established and newly participating hospitality brands.
- The Event Tech and Services zone consolidates AI platforms, registration systems, production technology and experiential suppliers in one area, giving planners a chance to compare tools and speak directly with vendors.
- AI for Events – Demo Day LIVE, a new addition for 2026 delivered with Boldpush, will run live demonstrations showing how AI is already being applied across event planning workflows.
Why it matters for the industry?
For event professionals, IBTM World has long functioned less as a trade show and more as an annual checkpoint — a place to gauge where the sector is heading, test new technology, and build relationships with buyers and suppliers face-to-face. This year’s focus on disruption suggests organisers are positioning the event as much around adaptation and resilience as it is around networking, at a time when AI adoption and budget scrutiny are reshaping how events get planned and justified internally.
